Revitalization of South Lake Tahoe's "Sapphire Bay"Sapphire Bay - Lake Tahoe
The establishment of Sapphire Bay as one of Lake Tahoe's premier tourist attractions.

South Lake Tahoe, CA, May 14, 2002 – The clear blue bay that stretches from Round Hill to the Tahoe Keys was named and recorded as Sapphire Bay. Back in the 1800's someone possibly Fremont, Carson or Twain named all the bays in Lake Tahoe after precious Gem stones; Crystal bay, Agate bay, Carnelian bay, Emerald Bay and Sapphire Bay. Sapphire Bay™, a recognized name amongst Lake Tahoe historians, would like to see the namesake brought back to its origin.

Sapphire Bay - Lake TahoeSouth Lake Tahoe's Sapphire Bay is some of the riches fishing grounds on the lake. The first commercial fishermen on the lake spread their nets along the shoreline of Sapphire Bay, daily taking in thousands of native silverside and cutthroat trout from the sandy shallows. Sapphire Bay bestows its wealth of fishing and beauty on every visitor to the south shore.Sapphire Bay - Lake Tahoe

The Sapphire Bay namesake was lost when the California and Nevada boundary line was moved and the bay was called Boundary Bay. Today even the name Boundary bay was dropped leaving the beautiful bay on the south shore with no identity. The south shores bay lives up to its namesake "Sapphire Bay" due to the crystal blue of the water in the bay. With the current redevelopment in South Lake Tahoe and the natural beauty, geology and history of this unique bay certainly makes it worth bringing the Sapphire Bay namesake back and making it one of the highlights of a visit to South Lake Tahoe.
